In the world of One Piece, Devil Fruits are divided into three major categories: Paramecia, Zoan, and Logia. Logia Fruits occupy a special place in this ecosystem—long considered the most powerful, they grant their user the ability to transform into a natural element and become intangible. Fire, ice, light, magnesium, sand, gas: each Logia Fruit redefines the limits of what is possible... until Haki enters the picture.
This characteristic intangibility long made Logia Fruit users virtually invincible against those untrained in Haki. A punch passing through the body as if striking air, an attack devastated before even reaching its target—this is the reality their opponents face. But since the Marineford Saga and the narrative explosion of the New World, the balance of power has changed.
What is a Logia-type Devil Fruit?
A Logia-type Devil Fruit—or Logia-type Devil Fruit in English—is a Fruit that allows its bearer to transform entirely into a natural element, produce it at will, and exercise total control over it. Unlike Paramecia Fruits, which alter the body or allow the user to generate a substance, Logia goes further: the user literally becomes the element.
Elemental transformation: the key to invincibility
Elemental transformation is what fundamentally distinguishes a Logia user. When Portgas D. Ace is punched, his body of flames disperses before instantly reforming. When Crocodile is struck, the hand passes through sand. This natural intangibility—permanently active once mastered—makes ordinary physical attacks completely ineffective.
To fully master a Logia Fruit, the user must learn to transform their body reflexively, without having to think about it. Beginners can be hit by surprise or when their concentration is broken—which explains why Luffy managed to hit Crocodile during their first confrontation in Alabasta and why Enel was surprised by Luffy's rubber body, which is naturally non-conductive.
The structural weaknesses of Logia
Even before the widespread introduction of Haki, every Logia Fruit had an intrinsic weakness linked to its element. Water nullifies Ace's flames. The sea itself remains fatal to any Devil Fruit user — Logia users included. And some elements naturally oppose one another: a fire user will be vulnerable to ice, while a sand user will be slowed by water. These elemental weaknesses are the only natural counterbalance to Logia invincibility before the Haki revolution.

View product →The Major Logia Fruit Users
Oda carefully paced the introduction of Logia Fruits throughout the series. Each user is associated with an element that extends their personality and narrative arc. Here are the main confirmed Logia Fruits in One Piece and their most notable wielders.
Ace and the Mera Mera no Mi (fire)
Portgas D. Ace, son of Gold Roger and Luffy's adoptive brother, possessed the Mera Mera no Mi, the Flame-Flame Fruit. Able to transform his body into flames and launch devastating attacks such as Hiken and Entei, Ace was one of the most spectacular Logia users in the series. His death at Marineford — pierced by Akainu's magma fist — remains one of the most traumatic moments in One Piece. After Ace's death, the Mera Mera no Mi reappeared during the Dressrosa Colosseum tournament, won by Sabo, Luffy's older brother.
Aokiji and the Hie Hie no Mi (ice)
Kuzan, also known as Aokiji, is the most complex Marine admiral in the series. His Hie Hie no Mi allows him to generate and control ice on a terrifying scale — he froze an entire stretch of ocean around Marineford in a matter of seconds. His ten-day clash with Akainu on Punk Hazard left the island half-frozen and half-on fire for eternity. A Logia-versus-Logia confrontation among the most devastating ever shown in the series.
Kizaru and the Pika Pika no Mi (light)
Borsalino, also known as Kizaru, is the user of the Pika Pika no Mi, the Light Fruit—often cited as the most powerful of the Logia in terms of absolute speed. Moving at the speed of light, firing lasers capable of piercing battleships, and reappearing instantly after an attack: Kizaru embodies Logia invincibility taken to its extreme. Find the complete profiles of the Marine Admirals in our dedicated guide to the hierarchy of the World Government.
Akainu and the Magu Magu no Mi (magma)
Sakazuki, also known as Akainu, possesses the Magu Magu no Mi, the Magma Fruit. Officially recognized as the most powerful offensive Fruit in the series according to Oda himself, the Magu Magu no Mi even surpasses Ace's fire—the latter's death is irrefutable proof. Akainu became Fleet Admiral after his ten-day victory over Aokiji, cementing his dominance as one of the most formidable forces in the world of One Piece.
Enel and the Goro Goro no Mi (lightning)
Enel, the self-proclaimed God of Skypiea, used the Goro Goro no Mi, a lightning Logia Fruit that allowed him not only to attack with 200-million-volt lightning bolts, but also to perceive all life on the island through his Mantra (the equivalent of Observation Haki). His defeat by Luffy remains symbolic: since rubber is naturally insulating, Luffy was immune to Enel's lightning—a natural counter without Haki.
Crocodile and the Suna Suna no Mi (sand)
Crocodile, a former Shichibukai, mastered the Suna Suna no Mi. His ability to dry out anything he touches—including living beings—made him a terrifying opponent. His weakness to water was exploited by Luffy during their final battle in Alabasta. Crocodile reappeared during the Marineford War, then as co-founder of Cross Guild alongside Mihawk. The interactions between Logia users and Marine agents are analyzed in our article on Smoker and the Marine's Logia Users.

Order →Haki shatters Logia invincibility
Before the events of Marineford, Logia Devil Fruit users seemed nearly invincible against ordinary opponents. The widespread introduction of Haki radically changed this balance — and that is precisely what makes the progression of Luffy and the characters of the New World so fascinating to follow.
Armament Haki: the universal key against Logia users
Armament Haki (Busoshoku Haki) allows one's willpower to be solidified into invisible armor that makes attacks physically tangible against a Logia body. When an Armament Haki user strikes a Logia user, the element can no longer disperse: the blow lands. This is the principle that allowed characters such as Rayleigh, Garp, and Whitebeard's officers to face Logia users in direct combat without being rendered helpless.
Armament Haki also represents a major narrative evolution: it forces Logia users to develop offensive and defensive strategies beyond simple intangibility. Aokiji, Akainu, and Kizaru must use Haki themselves to fight other powerful opponents — passive invincibility is no longer enough at the top of the power hierarchy.
Conqueror's Haki and its interaction with Logia users
The Conqueror's Haki (Haoshoku Haki) is less directly related to fighting Logia users, but its advanced level — the Conqueror's Haki coating mastered by Luffy, Shanks, or Kaido — enables devastatingly powerful attacks that transcend Devil Fruit type considerations. Our complete guide to Conqueror's Haki takes an in-depth look at this mechanism and its known users.
💡 Why Magu Magu beats Mera Mera
Magma is physically hotter and denser than ordinary fire. Oda respected this basic logic: Akainu's magma fist literally pierced Ace's wall of flames to reach his real body. An elemental victory over another element, even before Haki came into play — one of the boldest narrative decisions in the entire series.
The Awakening of Logia Fruits
The Awakening of Devil Fruits is one of the most recent and important concepts introduced in the final saga of One Piece. While Paramecia Fruit Awakenings (such as Luffy's with the Nika-Nika no Mi) have received the most attention, Logia Fruits may also be capable of Awakening—with potentially cataclysmic consequences.
What Is Awakening for a Logia?
For a Logia Fruit, Awakening would allow the user to extend their elemental influence beyond their own body—transforming the environment itself into their element or generating quantities far greater than their body alone could produce. Imagine Aokiji instantly turning an entire sea into ice, or Kizaru projecting beams of light across miles without any apparent fatigue.
Although no Logia Fruit Awakening has been explicitly confirmed in the manga at this point, numerous clues—notably Akainu's superhuman abilities after the timeskip and Kizaru's extreme mastery during the Egghead arc—suggest that some Logia users may already be awakened, even though the term has not been officially used.
The Most Likely Candidates for Logia Awakening
- Kizaru (Pika Pika no Mi) — Having already reached the speed of light suggests little room for improvement... unless Awakening multiplies his control over photons and the range of his attacks
- Akainu (Magu Magu no Mi) — Already considered the strongest character in the Marines, his Awakening would be cataclysmically powerful
- Sabo (Mera Mera no Mi) — The Supreme Commander of the Revolutionary Army demonstrates a growing mastery of fire, potentially on the path to Awakening
