Le passé de Sanji : Pourquoi les Vinsmoke l’ont-ils rejeté ?

Sanji’s past: Why did the Vinsmokes reject him?

Article summary:

Before becoming the "Black Leg" of the Straw Hats, Sanji was the "failed third son" of the Vinsmoke family, the rulers of the terrifying Germa 66. Beaten, locked up, and humiliated by his father Judge and his brothers, he escaped hell. But why so much hatred? In 2026, let’s look back at the childhood that forged the most gentlemanly cook on the seas.

The Whole Cake Island arc revealed that Sanji is a prince. But not a fairy-tale prince. His royal title was a curse. Unlike Zoro, who seeks brute strength, Sanji draws his power from what his family considered a weakness: his emotions.

The failure of Germa 66 science

Vinsmoke Judge, Sanji’s father, wanted to create perfect soldiers: fearless, merciless, and equipped with superhuman exoskeletons. He genetically modified his children in the womb. Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji were born as emotionless killing machines.

But Sanji was different. Thanks to the sacrifice of his mother, Sora, who took a drug to counteract the experiment, Sanji was born with a human heart. To Judge, this was a "failure." He was physically weaker than his brothers and loved cooking for mice, a disgrace to a family of assassins.

Zeff: The real father

Rejected and locked away behind an iron mask, Sanji managed to escape with the help of his sister Reiju. He found refuge at the Baratie with Red-Leg Zeff. Zeff taught him everything: cooking, fighting with his legs (to protect his hands), and respecting women.

Zeff gave him what Judge denied him: humanity. This upbringing is what drives Sanji to feed anyone, even a hungry enemy. A philosophy that contrasts with the cruelty of Yonko like Big Mom.

The revenge: Genetic awakening in Wano

The irony of fate is that Sanji eventually awakened the Germa genes during the Wano arc by wearing the Raid Suit. He gained an unbreakable exoskeleton and accelerated regeneration.

But unlike his brothers, he did not lose his emotions. He combined this science with his Armament Haki to create Ifrit Jambe, blue flames hotter than magma.

By accepting his past while morally rejecting it, he became "The Wings of the Pirate King" alongside Zoro. To learn more about the crew, visit our page: Straw Hat Crew Members.

Conclusion: Kindness is a strength

The Vinsmokes rejected him because he was human. Today, that humanity is what makes him one of the strongest and most beloved pirates in the world.
