Article summary:
In the world of swordsmen, there is a strict ranking of weapons: the Meito. At the top of this hierarchy stand the Saijo O Wazamono (Supreme Grade Blades). There are only 12 in the entire world. These are legendary weapons, often cursed or imbued with Haki, capable of withstanding the most violent impacts. In 2026, let’s take stock of the known blades.
Owning such a blade is every swordsman’s dream, but only a handful of exceptionally powerful individuals can wield them. Zoro, for example, possesses lower-ranked blades (O Wazamono), but aims to surpass the wielders of these 12 marvels.
Yoru, the strongest sword in the world.
The Confirmed Blades
To date, only a few blades have been officially confirmed as being among the 12:
- Yoru (Night): Dracule Mihawk’s gigantic cross-shaped black sword. It is currently the most powerful sword in the world.
- Murakumogiri: The bisento (halberd) of Edward Newgate (Whitebeard). A weapon capable of creating earthquakes.
- Ace: Gol D. Roger’s sword. Yes, the Pirate King was a swordsman, and he named his son after his beloved sword.
- Shodai Kitetsu: The first-generation Kitetsu, the original cursed sword.

The Remaining Mysteries: Nusjuro and Shanks
Where are the others? One of them is very likely held by Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, one of the 5 Elders (Gorosei). His sword bears a striking resemblance to the Shodai Kitetsu.

As for Gryphon, Shanks’s sword, it has not yet been confirmed as a Saijo O Wazamono, but since it rivals Whitebeard’s weapon, it is almost certainly one. Read our analysis of Gryphon, Shanks’s sword.

Zoro’s Goal: Transforming His Blades
Zoro does not yet possess a Saijo O Wazamono. However, he wields Enma (O Wazamono) and Wado Ichimonji. Legend says that a sword can “rank up” if it becomes a permanent Black Blade (Kokuto).
This happened with Shusui and Ryuma. If Zoro manages to blacken Enma or Wado Ichimonji, they could become the 13th and 14th supreme blades.
