⚡ Powers and Abilities
Mystical fruit that grants its eater a supernatural power, permanently taking away their ability to swim in return (they sink like an anvil as soon as they enter the water). It is impossible to eat two Fruits — the second would kill its host. They are divided into 3 major families:
- Paramecia: Modifies the body or environment (e.g., Luffy — elasticity, Law — spatial surgery).
- Zoan: Allows an animal, mythical, or artificial transformation (e.g., Kaido — Dragon, Chopper — Reindeer).
- Logia: Transforms the body into a natural element and grants intangibility (e.g., Ace — Fire, Aokiji — Ice).
Latent spiritual force present in every living being but mastered only by elite warriors. It is the only weapon capable of injuring Logia Fruit users in their elemental forms. There are 3 types of Haki:
- Observation Haki (Kenbunshoku): Perceive living beings and their emotions and — at an advanced level — predict their future movements.
- Armament Haki (Busoshoku): Coat the body in invisible (or black) armor to attack and defend. Advanced level: project it inside an enemy.
- Conqueror's Haki (Haoshoku): Rare innate power — overwhelming the souls of the weak. One person in several million possesses it. At an advanced level, it can be infused into attacks like lightning.
Exclusive combat techniques used by Monkey D. Luffy, developed throughout the arcs to surpass his physical limits:
- Gear 2: Accelerates blood circulation for tenfold speed and power. Consumes an enormous amount of energy.
- Gear 3: Blows air into the bones for massive attacks (giant-sized limbs).
- Gear 4 (Boundman / Tankman / Snakeman): Combines Armament Haki and muscle inflation. 3 variants depending on the combat situation.
- Gear 5 (Nika Awakening): The awakening of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika — Luffy becomes the "Sun God," with seemingly no limits, governed only by his imagination.
The ultimate stage of a Devil Fruit, attainable after extensive mastery over a long period. Awakening varies according to the type of Fruit:
- Awakened Paramecia: The power overflows from the user's body and transforms the environment (e.g., Doflamingo weaves threads into the ground).
- Awakened Zoan: Rapid regeneration, superhuman endurance, amplified animal instinct (e.g., Magellan's Guards).
- Awakened Logia: Total control of the element on a massive scale.
A mineral substance developed by the World Government, capable of emitting energy similar to that of the sea. Contact between a Devil Fruit user and Seastone nullifies their powers and weakens them as if they were submerged. Used in Marine cuffs, prison cages, and the hulls of certain ships. The Marines equip their weapons with it to capture powerful pirates.
A set of 6 elite combat techniques taught to World Government agents (CP9, CP0). Developed by pushing the human body to its absolute limits:
- Soru: Moving at supersonic speed.
- Geppo: Walking through the air by kicking the atmosphere.
- Rankyaku: A slicing shock wave created with a leg.
- Shigan: A finger used like a pistol bullet.
- Tekkai: Muscles hardened like steel.
- Kami-e: A body as flexible as paper for dodging.
🏴☠️ Groups and Titles
The four most powerful pirates in the world, ruling the New World as unofficial sovereigns. Their names make the Marines and other pirates tremble. Current situation (post-Wano): Luffy, Shanks, Blackbeard, and Buggy the Clown (promoted by accident of reputation). Big Mom and Kaido were defeated by Luffy’s Alliance in Wano.
Former institution: 7 powerful pirates allied with the World Government in exchange for legal immunity and having their bounties frozen. In return, they had to serve as military allies when needed. The system was officially abolished during the Reverie. Notable former members: Mihawk, Crocodile, Boa Hancock, Donquixote Doflamingo, Bartholomew Kuma, Gecko Moria, Jinbe, Trafalgar Law, Buggy.
👉 What became of them?
A Japanese term that can be translated as “companion,” “comrade,” or “crew member” — but in One Piece, it takes on a much deeper meaning. A Nakama is not merely an ally: it is a chosen family whose dreams you protect as if they were your own. Luffy never abandons a Nakama, whatever the consequences. It is the central value of the entire work.

The World Nobles—descendants of the 20 founding families of the World Government. They literally consider themselves Gods and wear airtight bubbles over their heads so they do not breathe the same air as the “inferiors.” Striking a Tenryubito triggers the dispatch of an Admiral. They can buy slaves at human auctions. Their absolute impunity illustrates the systemic corruption of the Government.
The 5 elders who officially govern the world from the Palace of Marie Geoise. In reality, they obey Imu-sama, the true sovereign of the world. Long considered mere bureaucrats, they reveal themselves during the Egghead arc to be entities of monstrous power—each possessing a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit linked to Japanese yokai. They are practically immortal.
👉 Their true powers revealed
The most powerful secret-agent unit of the World Government—officially nonexistent. Unlike CP1 through CP8 (intelligence), CP0 operates openly, and its members have authority over every other government entity except the Gorosei. They intervene to “neutralize” anything that threatens the Government's order—people, nations, or truths. Their agents master the Rokushiki and Haki at an elite level.
The 3 most powerful officers in the Marines, under the authority of Commander-in-Chief Sengoku (then Sakazuki). Each possesses a Logia Devil Fruit with massive destructive power. Current Admirals: Sakazuki (Akainu) — magma, Kuzan (Aokiji) — ice (resigned), Kizaru (Borsalino) — light, Fujitora (Issho) — gravity, Ryokugyu (Aramaki) — vegetation.
👉 The entire Marine hierarchy
Alliance of 7 pirate crews that spontaneously swore allegiance to Luffy after the Battle of Dressrosa—without Luffy asking them to. In total, approximately 5,600 elite warriors. Luffy refused to command them directly: they remain independent but will come to the Straw Hats' aid if necessary. This fleet makes Luffy a political force equivalent to a Yonko long before he officially becomes one.
⚔️ Items and Weapons
Indestructible stone stelae created by the Kozuki clan of Wano, engraved in an ancient language to withstand any attempt at erasure. They recount the Forgotten History of the Void Century. There are 3 types: Historical Poneglyphs (white, miscellaneous information), Arms Poneglyphs (the locations of the Ancient Weapons), and Road Poneglyphs (red, 4 in total), which, when combined, reveal the location of Laugh Tale. Only Robin can read them fluently.
👉 How to Read the Poneglyphs?
Refers to a high-quality sword forged by a master craftsman. There are several grades of Meito, from rarest to least rare: Saijo O Wazamono (12 legendary blades, including Mihawk's Yoru and Whitebeard's Murakumogiri), O Wazamono (21 great blades), Ryo Wazamono (50 fine blades). So-called "cursed" blades such as Sandai Kitetsu have a reputation for killing their wielders... except those courageous enough to tame them.

A special compass essential for navigating the Grand Line. Ordinary compasses are rendered useless by the powerful magnetic fields emitted by the islands. The Log Pose records an island's magnetic field and then points toward the next one (recording time: from a few hours to several years, depending on the island). In the New World, it is replaced by the three-needle New World Log Pose, which simultaneously indicates three islands—the most stable one wins.
Three legendary weapons of mass destruction capable of destroying the world. The World Government hunts them down to control or seal them:
- Pluton: A warship with devastating capabilities. The blueprints were destroyed by Iceburg — Franky had memorized them.
- Poseidon: Shirahoshi, the giant mermaid from Fish-Man Island, capable of commanding the Sea Kings.
- Uranus: The most mysterious one—its identity has not yet been revealed in the manga.
Telepathic snails used as telephones in the world of One Piece. They imitate their interlocutor's voice and facial expressions. There are several variants: regular ones (communication), Baby Den Den Mushi (spying microphones), Black Den Den Mushi (jammers), White Den Den Mushi (countermeasures), and Golden Den Den Mushi (summon the Buster Call).
A small piece of paper made from a person's blood and fingernails. It permanently indicates the direction of its owner and reacts to their vital condition: it burns and shrinks if the person is in danger or dying. Nakamas use it so they can always find one another. Shanks gave one to Luffy. It is the most personal navigation tool in the One Piece universe.
📜 Key Mysteries and Concepts
A mysterious will inherited by those who bear the initial "D." in their name: Monkey D. Luffy, Gol D. Roger, Trafalgar D. Water Law, Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard), Portgas D. Ace, Monkey D. Dragon... The Tenryubito fearfully call them "the Natural Enemies of the Gods." They all share an indestructible will, the ability to smile in the face of death, and a destiny linked to the world's history. The exact meaning of the "D" has not yet been fully revealed.

A 100-year period (approximately 800 years ago) erased from all history books by the World Government. Any attempt to uncover its secrets is punishable by death (Ohara's Buster Call). The Poneglyphs are its only witnesses. We know that during this period: the Ancient Kingdom was destroyed by 20 allied families (who formed the Government), Joy Boy existed, the Ancient Weapons were created, and a promise was broken with the Fish-Men.
👉 What we know about the Void Century
The final island of the Grand Line, at the end of the route charted by the four Road Poneglyphs. This is where Gol D. Roger discovered the "truth of the world" and left the One Piece. Roger's crew is the only one to have reached it so far. Roger renamed the island "Laugh Tale" because the truth he discovered there was so absurd and ironic that he could do nothing but laugh.
👉 Everything about Laugh Tale and the legendary treasure
A legendary, mythical sea where the waters of the world's four seas (North, South, East, and West Blue) converge — making it possible to find fish from every sea in one place. Most cooks consider it a fable. It is Sanji's ultimate dream: to create the most perfect dishes using ingredients from all the seas gathered together. Its existence has not yet been confirmed in the story, but Zeff believed in it.
A mythical figure who lived 800 years ago, during the Void Century. He had made a promise to the Fish-Men that he was unable to keep — and left them an apology on a Poneglyph on Fish-Man Island. He was closely connected to the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. When Luffy awakened in Wano, Zunesha declared: "Joy Boy has returned" — confirming that Luffy is the modern incarnation of this will.
👉 Luffy and Joy Boy's legacy
The secret sovereign of the world, who sits on the Empty Throne of the Palace of Marie Geoise — officially vacant for 800 years. The Five Elders obey and kneel before him. He ordered entire countries to be erased with the Ancient Weapon. His true identity, origins, and connection to the Void Century constitute the saga's last great unsolved mystery.

An extremely rare ability that allows one to hear the thoughts and emotions of all things—living beings, animals, and even inanimate objects such as Poneglyphs and stones. Only Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Luffy are known to possess it fully. It is distinct from Observation Haki and cannot be learned—it is an innate gift. It is thanks to this ability that Luffy naturally communicates with giant animals.

🌊 World Navigation and Geography
A band of sea that encircles the globe horizontally, perpendicular to the four seas (East, West, North, and South Blue). It is the main route for pirates seeking the One Piece—and the most dangerous, unpredictable, and mysterious sea in the world. Its islands have impossible climates, unique wildlife, and magnetic fields that render normal compasses useless. The Grand Line can be entered via Reverse Mountain or via Marie Geoise.
The second half of the Grand Line, after Marie Geoise (at the center of the world). It is the territory of the Yonko—a zone so dangerous that even the most seasoned pirates from the first half would not survive there. The islands are even more extreme: Wano is isolated behind deadly currents, Whole Cake Island is made of food, and Egghead is a futuristic island floating on giant bubbles.
The world's only continent, a red-rock wall that crosses the globe from pole to pole, perpendicular to the Grand Line. It divides the four seas and the Grand Line into two semicircles. It can only be crossed via Reverse Mountain (access to the Grand Line from the East Blue) or via Marie Geoise at the summit (reserved for the privileged). The island of the Fish-Men lies below.
Holy city built atop the Red Line, at the center of the world. It is the seat of the World Government, home to the Tenryubito (World Nobles), and location of the Empty Throne. Only Nobles, high-ranking officials, and kings of member nations may enter. The Reverie—the world summit of kings—is held there every 4 years. A national treasure of unknown nature is kept at its heart.
👑 Legendary Figures and Concepts of Destiny
The only man to have traversed the entire Grand Line and reached Laugh Tale — declared King of the Pirates. Publicly executed in Loguetown to discourage pirates, his speech before his death had the opposite effect: it triggered the "Great Pirate Era" by revealing the existence of the One Piece. Roger possessed the Voice of All Things, Conqueror’s Haki at its peak, and no Devil Fruit — his strength was 100% physical and spiritual. His son: Portgas D. Ace.
The most dangerous pirate ever to exist, before Roger. His crew (the Rocks Pirates) brought together those who would become the future Yonko: Big Mom, Kaido, and Whitebeard — all young lieutenants under his command. Defeated during the God Valley Incident by Garp and Roger’s alliance. His name was erased from history by the World Government — even Garp himself refuses to talk about him. His goal: to become the King of the World.
A reward issued by the World Government for the capture or elimination of a pirate. It reflects an individual’s perceived danger — not just their power, but also their ability to threaten the world order (influence, rallying populations, knowledge of secrets). A pirate without a bounty is considered harmless. The highest known bounty to date is Luffy’s (3 billion berries, post-Wano).

The World Government’s ultimate emergency measure — the equivalent of a nuclear strike. It consists of sending 5 vice admirals and 10 warships to completely destroy a target, including the island, without regard for civilians. Triggered by the Golden Den Den Mushi, reserved for high-ranking officials. The Ohara Incident (the destruction of the scholars’ island) is the best-known — and most traumatic — Buster Call in the series.
